On September 17th a new film, THE KILLING OF KENNETH CHAMBERLAIN, about the 2011 police killing of Black Marine veteran Kenneth Chamberlain (inside his home) will be released to the general public.

On September 14th there will be a special screening of the film at the Showcase Cinema De Lux In Chamberlain's Home Town Of White Plains, NY. The film is executive-produced by Lori McCreary and Morgan Freeman of Revelations Entertainment and produced by David Midell and Enrico Natale of Redbird Entertainment

THE KILLING OF KENNETH CHAMBERLAIN tells the true story of the events that led to the death of Kenneth Chamberlain Sr., an elderly African American veteran with bipolar disorder, who was killed during a conflict with police officers who were dispatched to his home.

Set to be released by Gravitas Ventures both theatrically and on most digital VOD platforms September 17th, the film comes at an important time in the national conversation about systemic racism and is a searing example of law enforcement’s sometimes callous and cruel treatment of people of color, echoing recent high-profile incidents involving George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and countless others.

A festival favorite, THE KILLING OF KENNETH CHAMBERLAIN world-premiered at the Austin Film Festival and won the Audience Award and the Narrative Jury Award there. At the Urbanworld Film Festival it won the Jury Award for best US Narrative, and continued winning at festivals, earning a number of awards.

As a former behavioral therapist, and on the autism spectrum himself, David Midell comes to this material with an added layer of personal experience. “Our goal all along has been to ask important questions about how our criminal justice system treats people of color, people in low-income areas, and people living with mental health challenges.”

With an eye for true stories and real-life narratives, Midell and Natale’s projects possess a gritty authenticity and often echo social/political trends. Those qualities have made THE KILLING OF KENNETH CHAMBERLAIN a fixture at festivals and have led to an independent Spirit Award Nomination for David Midell in the “Someone to Watch” category.
