[New Play]

“Love To All, Lorraine,” the acclaimed one-woman play based on the life of the late Lorraine Hansberry, September 12th and runs through the 16th at Manhattan’s Ensemble Studio Theatre, 549 West 52nd Street, 2nd Fl – between 10th & 11th Avenues.

Not to be missed, “Love To All, Lorraine,” adapted from the writings of Lorraine Hansberry, and brilliantly performed by actress-writer-director Elizabeth Van Dyke, reveals many of the trials, tribulations and triumphs of Hansberry.  “Lorraine,” says Van Dyke, “focuses on her emotional state during significant periods of her life, that include memories of being raised in a family that refused racial prejudice, learning American history from W.E.. DuBois, working for Paul Robeson, marrying a man of Jewish heritage, and struggling to write during her losing battle with cancer.”

Rising to international prominence in the 1950s and 1960s, Hansberry displayed a brilliance that won her national acclaim for the classic production of “A Raisin In The Sun.”

Produced by Woodie King, Jr’s National Black Touring Circuit, in its previous runs “…Lorraine” has earned accolades wherever it’s been performed. The New York Times raved, “Ms. Van Dyke is luminous and coursing with intellectual zeal.”

“Lorraine” exemplifies NBTC’s commitment to produce top-quality productions. It’s producer Woodie King, Jr. (founder and director of New Federal Theatre), explains, “We Feel it is our responsibility to educate while in the process of entertaining. When we produce high-caliber productions like ‘Love to All, Lorraine,’ everyone benefits.”

Co-Directed by Woodie King, Jr. and Elizabeth Van Dyke, and funded in part by NYSCA, Louis & Anne Abrons Foundation and individual contributions, “Love To All, Lorraine” is a labor of love that reaches the pinnacle of theatrical excellence.
