(R. Kelly faces assault charges).

Multi-talented crooner R. Kelly is facing an assault lawsuit.

Henry Vaughn, in his lawsuit against R Kelly at the Cook county circuit court, filed Oct 4, alleges that he was assaulted by Kelly at his Olympia Fields residence last February.

According to Vaughn, he had joined other individuals at Kelly’s home to watch a basketball game. Trouble erupted when Kelly’s security guard became verbally abusive to Vaughn. He claims he was then prevented by the entertainer from leaving the residence and that he was dragged to the basement where Kelly punched him with his fist in the face and stomach. Vaughn claims “severe injuries, and is now also faced with substantial medical bills” as a result of the alleged beating.

Vaughn, who is a childhood friend of R Kelly’s, also accuses Kelly for not paying him for work he did on “Step in the name of love” which appeared on “Chocolate factory” and became a hit. He claims he helped with the writing of that song and the making of the video for the same song.

Vaughn is just a “hanger-on” trying to extort money, retorts Allan Mayer, a spokesman for Kelly. “Kelly has written over 2,000 songs without ever using a co-writer,” Mayer says. “The lawsuit is a pathetic collection of half-truths, distortions and outright lies. To suggest that he needed Mr. Vaughn’s help to write a song or that he offered him any portion of his songwriting royalties is ludicrous.”

Vaughn is seeking over $50,000 in punitive and compensatory damages.
