Hammond\Popcaan: “A Mother’s Love”

Legendary Reggae singer Beres Hammond (a former lead singer for the Zap Pow band) and Dancehall star Popcaan recently released a visual for their song "A Mother's Love."

Anchored by Hammond's one-of-a-kind voice, and blended with Popcaan's lyrical Toasting technique, the song is an excellent duet uplifting Black motherhood, and the specific trials and tribulations Black mothers face in a world hostile to those born of African descent.

The song and video relay the important, but too often forgotten, point of the vitally essential positive role played by mothers in raising strong children. The video portrayal seems to show several Black mothers and grandmothers, some of whom appear to be related to the artists of this great song.

The inter-generational artistic collaboration between Hammond and Popcaan should also be celebrated in a time where respect for elders is far from what it should be.

Hammond and Popcaan have created a classic that will likely become a Mother's Day anthem.
