If you are visiting Harlem and want to hear some live music, trek on over to Paris Blues, where the customers are old school, some even wearing zoot suits and snake skin boots. While there, you are sure to run into Sam Hargress, Jr., the owner of the legendary club located at 2021 7th Avenue, in the ‘heart’ of Harlem. The jazz music is great and reminiscent of an old New Orleans jazz house. The small place with an outdoor patio fills up fast and you’ll probably be lucky to get a seat if you’re not there a little early. In 1969, Samuel Hargress, Jr., opened and continues to manage Paris Blues. The club has seen many a blues and jazz Great perform and reside in its midst, in some ways serving as an historic steward over the village of Harlem watching it change while in some case remaining the same.

The Paris Blues Club will honor Blues Lovers from 8:00 pm to 12 Midnight, Wednesday, October 11th, at B.B. KING Blues Club on 42ndStreet at TIMES SQUARE. The evening will feature TYRONE GOVAN and his All-Star Blues/Jazz Band DER SECRETE, and the release of his new CD “CHAMPAGNE LADY.The event promises to be an amazing night of music the likes of which you have never heard,” claims Hargrass. “We’re gonna crank ‘em up downtown and rock the house! We’ll show ’em what Harlem can do!”

The occasion will bring out several Elected Officials and other VIPs including Geoffrey Eaton, former Chief of Staff for Congressman Charles Chi Mitchell, 1st female Commander of the Harlem American Legion Post. Councilmember Bill Perkins will honor Sam Hargress, Jr., with a LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD for “Keeping The Blues Alive” in the BIG APPLE since 1969! “It is a privilege to merge these two popular neighborhoods in Manhattan showing the diversity and oneness of all New Yorkers,” stated Perkins.
