Former Shalamar singer and noted musician Howard Hewett is set to take the stage at the Brooklyn Soundstage hosted ‘Mother’s Day Gala’ in New York next month.

Hewett, known for hits including “I’m For Real” and “Second Time Around,” will headline the special Classic Soul Mother’s Day concert and dinner set to take place Sunday, May 10 at Brooklyn Soundstage. Slated to perform a selection of songs from his solo career in addition to songs from the Shalamar days when he was lead singer of the often “Soul Train” featured group, Hewett’s performance will also benefit Harlem based Girl Spirit Women Song Inc.

Girl Spirit Women Song, founded in November of 2005, benefits the noted initiative Harriet’s Heart.

Harriet’s Heart is a groundbreaking 4 year undertaking, honoring the legacy of Harriet Tubman, where 19 especially selected young ladies, each representing Tubman’s 19 courageous journeys on the Underground Railroad, are guided from girlhood to womanhood via leadership and life skills readiness, social etiquette and artistic expression, assuring successful completion of high school, then onto the freedom of academic exploration, simultaneously raising more than $1 million in cash and resources to support their college educations.
