Professor X’s Funeral Plans

A wake will be held Thursday March 23, 2006 for pioneer revolutionary hip hop artist and social activist Professor X who died last Friday, The Black Star News has learned.

The wake will be from  3PM to 8PM at the House of Our Lord Church, 415 Atlantic Avenue,  between Nevins & Bonds Street, Brooklyn, New York 11217. Funeral services are Friday March 24 2006 from 5PM and 9PM, Antioch Baptist Church, 826 Green Avenue, Brooklyn, New York 11221. The Last drive will be Saturday, March 25, 2006, 7:30AM at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corp., 1368 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, New 11216.

His group, X-Clan was much more than a rap group. “They were a part of a historical movement of men and women who fought tirelessly and courageously on the frontlines to bring our community a greater degree of Knowledge, Wisdom, and Understanding,� recalls Intelligent Muzik. “Let’s honor Professor X’s life by living ours with self- respect and dignity.� Professor X succumbed to complication after a bout with asthma and meningitis, at the Interfaith Medical Center in Crown Heights Brooklyn.

As a member of X-Clan, Professor X was famous for his classic phrases "Vainglorious" and referred to fools as "sissies."  X-Clan released a pair of critically acclaimed albums, “To the East, Blackwardsâ€? (1990) and “Xodusâ€? (1992). The Brooklyn-based group disbanded soon after. X-Clan announced plans for a comeback in December 2005.

Professor X, born Lumumba Carson, was 49, and was the father of two. He was son of the late Abubadika Sonny Carson, a fearless fighter for African people everywhere, who produced The Education of Sonny Carson. The elder Carson died in December 2003. Professor X founded the grassroots organization BlackWatch.
