R. Kelly Acquitted Of All Charges

The six year ordeal for R&B singer R. Kelly has come to an end as jurors acquitted him of all charges after just a day of deliberations.

Both R. Kelly and the 23-year-old alleged victim had denied they were the ones on the tape which was shown to the jury.

Kelly was found not guilty on all 14 counts in his child pornography trial. He then hugged all his attorneys in great relief.

Kelly avoided the possibility of maximum 15 years in prison. He then left the court without a comment to fans and media. Many of his fan cheered as he left.

Prosecutors had argued that Kelly was video taped having sex with a 13 year girl. A star witness also claimed that she had a threesome with Kelly and the alleged victim, but she was discredited by the defence, as someone who is trying to extort money from Kelly. Defence attorneys also argued that the man on the tape didn’t have a large mole on his back; Kelly has such a mole.

Jurors struggled to see such a mole on some bits of footage.

The trial then was based on whether that was Kelly on the tape and whether the girl was indeed underage. Defence called 12 witnesses which included 3 of the relatives of the alleged victim. All three could not confirm that she was on that tape.

The Jury was made up of nine men and three women, eight were white and four were black. Kelly, who has already won 3 Grammys is due to release an album later this year called “12 play: Fourth Quarter.”
