Review: Pretty Ricky

-A +A

Following their debut album which landed in May 2005, Pretty Ricky have presented us with their second studio recording.

The group is quite unique in that it contains singers as well as rappers, therefore mixing the two genres together in every song. The four brothers from Miami scored several hits from their first album Bluestars. Grind with me peaked at #6 on the billboard hot 100. Your Body peaked at #12. The album has sold close a million copies to date, firmly establishing a fan base for the group, which consists mainly of teenage girls.

Their second album, Late Night Special is  raunchy, highly sexual and at times very explicit. Just what their fans demand. The CD opens with Late night special, which is the title of the album. In this track, the guys brag about their superior sexual talents. On the hotline is all about talking dirty on the phone. So confused features Butta Crème on vocals. One of the better tracks on the CD. It quite mellow with very good production, and the subject matter deals with forbidden love (falling for somebody who is already involved). The rest of the CD pretty much follows in the same vein. Most tracks are mid tempo, with some corny lyrics at times coupled with that well know Southern flow from the rappers. This CD is what you would expect from a teen R&B boy group.

In this CD the boys do not beat about the bush when expressing their sexual desires. At times it just comes off a little crass. But it is important to remember that their main fan base are teenage girls who would appreciate their lyrics. The CD dropped on Jan 23 on Atlantic records.
