Shanice Burns Up Harlem's Summerstage

-A +A

Angel of Soul, Shanice, best known for her 90s smash hit, I Love Your Smile, tore it up at Harlem Summerstage ’06 at Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. State Office Building Plaza on Thursday, July 20th.  Dubbing Shanice a “diva” would be a disservice since she falls into a category all her own with her innocent, unpretentious, wholesome, yet sensual style.

Shanice surpasses the usual parameters of the voice.
With her five-octave range, the siren mesmerized the audience of a thousand or more, who bounced, hollered, danced and sang along to selections from her electrifying album, Every Woman Dreams. Shanice got her audience bouncing with her contagious club song, Get Up.  Then she teased the grownups with her latest release, Take Care of You.  (Y’all ever seen that video?  WHOO!)  Everybody bounced and sang along to her 1991 smash hit signature song, I Love Your Smile, and her hypnotic rendition of Mini Ripperton’s Loving You.  Everybody went crazy each time Shanice hit those hi-notes.   She followed with the soulful title song, Every Woman Dreams.  For the grand finale, Shanice burned up the stage with Hip-Hop artist, Karif of Powermove, performing So Sexy.  During his rhyme, Karif's mic went out several times causing a disgruntled uproar in the audience. Quick thinking, Shanice handed Karif her own mic and the crowd went wild, showing their support while Karif finished his verse.

Shanice was celebrated by her many fans as kids’ faces and adults alike shone with adoration and love for her. Shanice was gracious enough to take time out to pose for pictures and sign a few autographs, while the people she keeps closest to her possessed the same element of love and respect for her fans as she did.  Upon leaving the stage, fans and admirers struggled to get her attention as Shanice’s entourage rushed her off.  One of the people in her company saw the confusion as fans pleaded for Shanice’s autograph and stopped to take time out and get autographs for some of her excited fans.
