Singing For The Troops

Last year, during the holiday season, thousands of American soldiers were away from their families, with many of them stationed in Iraq. This holiday season will be the same, as many continue to be deployed to the Middle East. While this is difficult throughout the year, it’s especially hard on families around the holidays.

One artist has found a way to express those feelings and share them with others through a new song. The song, entitled “Holiday,� was recently released by the soulful singer Giel (http://gielmusic.net) and is available to the public through most music download Web sites like iTunes and Napster.

“I wrote this single because of my brother,� explains Giel. “He’s a wonderful guy that loves his family and I know we will all miss him during the holidays. We’re already struggling with the thought of him not being here during this special time of year.� Giel’s brother, Sgt. Dwayne Roberts, was deployed to Iraq for his second tour of duty on October 29, 2006. This father of five children has siblings, parents, and other family and friends awaiting for his safe return.

The soldiers keep us all safe and make the world a better place.� The inspiration for Giel to write the song came from his departure. With those thoughts and feelings in mind, she created a hit with which many people around the country can identify. “This song is really for anyone that is without a loved one this holiday,� adds Giel. “With my song, I hope to raise awareness of the sacrifices these soldiers are making, being away from their families.�
