Hair’itage The Play, Staged At Medgar Evers

Local playwright and director, Niccole Nero Gaines, will share her latest work, Hair’itage The Play, on stage this Thursday, October 17th at the Edison O Jackson Auditorium, on the campus of Medgar Evers College, located at 1638 Bedford Ave, Brooklyn, New York.

The show starts at 7:00PM. General public tickets are available online for $20.00, and student tickets can be purchased at the Office of Student Life on campus. A valid student ID is needed for the student discount.

This play is for both women and men, and is sure to be a hit! Hair’itage The Play is a story about six sistahs who share the journey of their hair and how their hair impacts them throughout their lives in many different ways. Playgoers leave in awe – empowered. Some even share tears of joy, as they can relate to the storyline from a personal perspective. Hair’itage – is a play on words with Heritage to create a more in-depth discussion about a black woman’s hair, often referred to as her “crown and glory.”

Hair’itage The Play is a journey that women from all walks of life, socio-economic backgrounds, and cultural backgrounds will enjoy. With so much emphasis in today’s society on hair and beauty; black women have always been trendsetters when it comes to hair styles. Hair’itage The Play creates a sounding board to address the layers of issues and insecurities that many women have about their hair, and how their hair can or has defined them.

The writer of the play, Niccole Nero Gaines looks to take her show beyond Broadway. Local campuses around the southeast can present this amazing story that is sure to enlighten, empower and allow attendees to embrace their hair journey. After all, even a woman with the worst hair day can find refuge in a stylist’s chair at the local hair salon.

For media passes, email [email protected]. About the Writer/Director – Niccole Nero Gaines: Niccole is a graduate of Morgan State University with a BA in Theatre Arts. Niccole’s other writings and productions include; Last Dance and From the Heart of Hollis, for which she won the Arthur C. Lamb Playwriting Award.

For the past few years Niccole has owned a hair salon. The many stories Niccole heard while operating the salon inspired this production. Niccole would like to thank her family and friends for their encouragement and support.
