Angola’s government is reportedly currently trying to extradite Isabel dos Santos (daughter of former President José Eduardo dos Santos) “by all possible means” to prosecute her on corruption charges related to the alleged stealing of massive amounts of money from the Angolan people.

Dos Santos, said to be the richest woman in Africa, left Angola in 2018, after her father stepped down as Angola’s president in 2017. Since then, the Angolan government has been trying to get her extradited to prosecute her, especially in the aftermath of the country’s current recession crisis.

Dos Santos remains in exile in Portugal and has denied any wrongdoing.

Yesterday, the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) published “Luanda Leaks,” a report detailing how Dos Santos amassed her massive wealth. She is worth $2 billion.

According to Will Fitzgibbon, and Mago Torres, of ICIJ, “The files reveal how Isabel dos Santos, the richest woman in Africa and daughter of long-serving African strongman president, José Eduardo dos Santos, moved public money out of one of the poorest countries on the planet into tax havens and beyond.”

Fitzgibbon and Torres say the “leak is comprised of more than 715,000 documents, including emails, contracts, spreadsheets, audits, incorporation papers, organizational charts, board of directors meeting minutes and videos, loan agreements, deeds, public contracts, invoices, tax advice and tax returns.”

Dos Santos is denying any wrongdoing and claims the ICIJ report is based on “fake documents.”

“The ICIJ report is based on many fake documents and false information,” said dos Santos. “It is a coordinated political attack in coordinations with the ‘Angolan Government.”

Dos Santos’ father, former President José Eduardo dos Santos, had been in power since September 1979, before stepping down in September 2017.
