The following message is from the advocacy group Security & Justice for Tigrayans (SJT) regarding Tigrayan members of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) who SJT reports are being kidnapped and tortured while engaging in a peacekeeping mission in Baidoa, Somalia:

“We are writing about a very urgent and alarming matter regarding Tigrayan members of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) who have been on a UN peacekeeping mission in Baidoa, Somalia. SJT has learned that the government of Ethiopia has started to forcefully and unwillingly kidnap, return, and torture these Tigrayan peacekeepers without the knowledge of AMISOM.

“The UN peacekeeping leadership has a moral and legal obligation to stop the forceful return of the Tigrayan members of the AMISOM mission to Ethiopia, a country which has become hell to Tigrayans. The Tigrayan peacekeepers have no willingness to go to such a horrific and desperate situation in Ethiopia. This matter needs the immediate attention of the UN and other concerned bodies to provide the peacekeepers the needed protection.

“As Martin Luther King said, ‘Injustice anywhere is Injustice Everywhere.’”
