UPC President Olara Otunnu discusses a recent set of demands for electoral reform by Ugandan opposition party leaders ahead of the 2016 Presidential elections.
The demands were formulated after a meeting of: Forum for Democratic Change party president Mugisha Muntu; Uganda Peoples Congress party president Olara Otunnu; Democratic Party president Norbert Mao; and, Jeema president Asuman Basalirwa.
The electoral reform demands include:
>>A new independent Electoral Commission
>>A new voters’ registry
>>Removal of security forces and militias from intimidating voters
>>No diversion of public funds to benefit president’s campaign
>>Clear demarcation of electoral boundaries
>>Freedom to organize and assemble
>>Reforming how election presiding officers are selected
>>Establishing a new system of adjudicating election outcome disputes
