[Hurricane Dorian\Bahamas]
This Friday, Bahamas Prime Minister Minnis will deliver the National Statement of The Bahamas focusing on the recovery and aftermath of Hurricane Dorian.

Prime Minister the Most Hon. Dr. Hubert Minnis will depart for New York on September 26th to attend the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

During the General Debate, on Friday September 27th, Prime Minister Minnis will deliver the National Statement of The Bahamas. In his address, the Prime Minister will share with the Assembly the impact of Hurricane Dorian on Abaco and Grand Bahama, and how the country is responding to the effects of climate change.

The Prime Minister will also engage other leaders on the margins of the General Assembly, including a Courtesy Call by the Secretary General of The Commonwealth, the Rt. Hon. Patricia Scotland, Q.C., and a presentation by the President of Micronesia, H.E. Peter M. Christian.

On Thursday evening, the Prime Minister will meet with Bahamians living in New York.

Prime Minister Minnis will be accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Patricia Minnis, and senior government officials, including Senior Policy Advisor Mr. Joshua Sears and Chief Operating Office in the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit, Mrs. Viana Gardiner. The Prime Minister and his delegation will join the Bahamian delegation led by Minister of Foreign Affairs the Hon. Darren Henfield, which arrived in New York for the UNGA on Saturday September 21st.

The delegation also includes Minister of Transport and Local Government the Hon. Renward Wells and the Hon. Ricky Mackey, MP. Prime Minister Minnis delayed his attendance to the General Assembly due to the need to coordinate the national response to Hurricane Dorian.

The Prime Minister will attend the General Assembly on Friday only, when The Bahamas presents its national statement. The Prime Minister returns to The Bahamas on Saturday September 28th.

During his absence, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance the Hon. K. Peter Turnquest will act as Prime Minister.
