Nigerian Cabinet Reshuffled

The reshuffle was a result of the merger of some ministries and the appointment of six new ministers to replace those who resigned to contest political offices.

 

President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday reshuffled his cabinet, a process that saw some cabinet ministers lose seniority.

The reshuffle was a result of the merger of some ministries and the appointment of six new ministers to replace those who resigned to contest political offices.

The new ministers are, Alhaji Bala Borodo, Minister of State, for Mines and Steel, Alhaji Ikra Aliyu Bilbis, Minister of State for Environment and Housing, Senator Abdullahi Mohammed Wali Minister and Deputy National Chairman National Planning commission and Dr. Adewumi Abitoye, Minister of State for Education.

Others include, Arc. Mike Onolomemen, Minister for State Defence and Chief Desmond Akawor, Minister of State Federal Capital Territory (FCT). President Obasanjo announced the cabinet reshuffle at the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the council chambers, Abuja.

The ministers affected are, Ambassador Fidelis Tabgun who was moved from Ministry of Industry to the Ministry of Commerce as Minister of State, former Police Affairs Minister Mr. Alaowei Broderick Bozimo now Minister of State, Ministry of Interior with Ambassador Olu Adeniji as senior minister.

Others are, Chief Femi Fani Kayode, Minister of State1 in the Ministry of Transportation, Alhaji Mohammed Habibu Aliyu Minister of State 2 and Chief Cornelius Adebayo moved from Ministry of Works to the Ministry of Transports as senior minister.

Former minister of state, Water Resources, Mrs. Salome Jankada, has been moved to the newly created Ministry of Youths Development as Minister, former Minister of State in the Power and Steel Alhaji Ahmed Abdulhamid moved to the Ministry of Energy.

Engineer Obafemi Anibaba moves to the ministry of Information and Communications as minister of state. Dr. Mrs. Grace Ogwuche, formerly minister of Special Duties now moved to the ministry of Agriculture as minister of state 2. Alhaji Bala Bawa Kaoje is minister and National Chairman, National Sports Commission while Professor Leslye Obiora moves to the ministry of Mines and Steel Development as minister.

However, thirteen ministers are not affected in the reshuffle, they are, ministries of Finance, Education, Science and Technology, Health, Commerce, Foreign Affairs, and Information. Others include Women Affairs, Agriculture, Labor, Environment, Justice and Tourism Culture.

Meanwhile president Obasanjo explained that former full ministers who are now assigned as ministers of state will retain their benefits as personal to them.
