Health Department to Host Free Health Insurance Enrollment Event on Friday at CUNY School of Public Health at Hunter College
Sign up on-site from 3pm-8pm on Friday, March 14th – assistance available in English and Spanish
With the March 31st deadline to sign up for affordable health insurance fast approaching, the Health Department is hosting a free enrollment event this Friday at the CUNY School of Public Health at Hunter College in Harlem. This event will provide uninsured New Yorkers the opportunity to learn about their health insurance options. Participants will also be able to ask questions and sign up for coverage on-site.
According to the Health Department’s 2012 Community Health Survey, nearly 20% of adult New Yorkers do not have health insurance and nearly 40% of adults who speak Spanish as their primary language at home do not have health insurance. Many are not aware that they are eligible to receive financial help through the Marketplace. Over the past decade, the Health Department’s District Public Health Office in East and Central Harlem has been working with the community in Harlem to reduce health disparities and promote health equity. This event follows the launch of a multimedia campaign this week by the Health Department to encourage New Yorkers to sign up by the March 31st deadline.
Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett will discuss the importance of health insurance for all New Yorkers and how critical a role it plays in the long term health of both individuals and families.
The event is Friday, March 14, 2014. From 3:00 – 8:00PM – Health Insurance Enrollment. Also from 3:30 – 5:00PM – FREE Information Session.
Commissioner Bassett will speak at 3:30pm.
In-person help will be available to families and individuals. Help will be available in both English and Spanish.
