Business: Hair Certification Classes Offered By IMENA Inc.

-A +A

Women across the country are trying to elevate their natural hair game, and Tami C. of IMENA Inc. of Harlem offers natural hair certification classes in New York City. The next one takes place on November 17, 2018, from 9am to 5pm, at Vision Space, 566 7th Avenue, Suite 504 in Manhattan.

Tami has been offering her classes for over three years and now she's building on her success by expanding her master sessions. Tami wrote the book on natural hair styling. The IMENA METHOD: Natural Hair Care Techniques for All helps professionals increase their knowledge, revenue and profit. "The book invites readers to learn a common language and the techniques around caring for natural hair so that communication among stylists and clients can be open, honest, and transparent," Tami says.

At a time when close to two dozen states are allowing people to do hair without going through traditional beauty school, Tami is ahead of the game, getting stylists and those who just want to learn, ready. New Jersey was the most recent state no longer requiring natural hair stylists to face the expense of securing a cosmetology license under a law signed by Governor Phil Murphy. Two dozen other states have also done away with natural hair requirements leaving women searching for classes like Tami’s to sharpen their skills. “These classes make a big difference. Whether you are a stylist or want to be one, I give you the tools you need to be successful in handling natural hair," Tami says. "I started IMENA so that clients could have a team of stylists who were educated around styling naturally curly, coily hair. Through education a person can grow to understand, appreciate and embrace diversity in hair textures, lengths and styles."

HOW STUDENTS CAN GET CERTIFIED: There are very limited seats for this VIP class that takes place on November 17, 2018, 9am to 5pm. Tami will be teaching anyone who wants to learn how to perfect: Wash & Go's, Silk Presses, Loc maintenance and Two- Strand Twists. VIP ticket holders will also get one on coaching and teaching during the event from Tami to help them perfect their technique. They will have a model or a mannequin to practice their skills in real time. They'll also get continued coaching for the following 30 days after the event to help them retain what they have learned. Those who are certified will get listed on the IMENA website as a certified IMENA Method stylist.

SPECTATOR SEATS: Those who want to learn can sit and watch hair being transformed. They will also get all the great tips and techniques for all four hair styles. All general attendees get a swag bag of products, lunch, drinks, and free raffle tickets.

Tami C. is a professional licensed hairstylist and owner of IMENA Inc., a hair-and- beauty company based in Harlem. She is a graduate of the American Beauty School in the Bronx, New York. Tami started IMENA Inc. in 2008 so that clients could have a place to go to get their hair done with a person who understands, appreciates, and embraces the diversity in hair textures, lengths, and styles.

Sponsors: Guests will get a swag bag with products from Karen’s Body Beautiful, Aunt Jackie’s, JessiCurls, Ori Luscious and Curl Prep.
