Wine Spencer (WS), two bold wine-loving sisters who recently launched a contemporary wine tasting events company, Tuesday announced distinct new initiatives in honor of Black History Month.

Supporting minority winemakers has been a strong premise for Wine Spencer since the company’s inception during the COVID lockdown last spring. To celebrate Black History Month, Wine Spencer will be donating part of the proceeds from their exclusively created Black-Owned Winemakers and Female Winemakers classes to help support the next generation of Black and female wine professionals.

Specifically, a portion of the proceeds from tastings booked through the end of February will go to Urban Connoisseurs, a scholarship fund dedicated to increasing the number of American winemakers of African descent in the US by connecting the world of Black winemakers to connoisseurs.

“Black History Month is about celebrating our own heritage while also supporting minority winemakers traditionally left out of the wine industry,” said Shaunna Cooper, Co-Founder and Chief Wine Taster. “As our own company grows, we also want to focus on making sure these specific groups have the opportunity to be successful in an industry we are so passionate about,” added Shayla Smith, Co-founder, and Chief Wine Pairing Officer.

Wine Spencer has created a unique virtual format of offerings on their website to inspire wine lovers and wine novices to join the tasting experience from the comfort of their home. In less than a year, Wine Spencer has facilitated virtual wine tastings for companies like Google, Netflix and Major League Soccer.

Current Wine Spencer virtual wine experiences to choose from include:

  • Wine 101
  • Old World vs. New World
  • All White Everything
  • All Red Everything

  • South African Wine Tour

About Wine Spencer

Born from a deep passion and curious affinity for wine early on, sisters Shaunna Cooper and Shayla Smith started Wine Spencer in honor of their father, grandfather, and great grandfather, all named Spencer. Having both earned the Wine Spirit and Education Trust Level 2 Award, these bold sisters are focused on taking the intimidation factor out of wine tasting. They are redefining what wine means and giving it a contemporary significance, especially among minority communities, diverse ethnicities and cultures that have not traditionally been catered to within the wine industry. While the company is based in Arizona where Shaunna lives, Shayla resides in New York City to grow Wine Spencer in that area.
