Cecily; Writer & Publicist

Cecily: “You have to be careful whom you confide in. Pick confidants whom you know truly care about you and will give you good advice.

[My Story]

Where She’s From: Cecily Holland, a Scorpio, was born in a tiny town called Eunice, Louisiana. “I am a true Grits woman,” she tells The Black Star News. “Family is very important to me. My grandmother had 13 kids. So I have lots of uncles and aunts and cousins.”

Cecily is her mother’s only child. “My mom and my grandmother are two of my biggest source of inspiration. My grandmother has taught me that with Christ all things are possible and my mother has taught me that I can do anything I want if I put my mind to it.”

Where She’s At: She graduated from Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA in December 2004 with a degree in communications. “I wrote for a daily newspaper for over a year then after that I worked out of a Louisiana state representative’s office and I just recently moved to Dallas walking by faith and not by sight so I will be working in my field soon again,” she adds.

“I want to write a book,” Cecily adds. “I want to get more into public relations and I want to do entertainment broadcast journalism. I actually started but never finished and I want to become a publicist too.”

“Every time I get down, the Lord picks me right back up,” she continues, when asked how she deals with challenges. “You have to be careful whom you confide in. Pick confidants whom you know truly care about you and will give you good advice.”

“I am so proud of the fact that I was the JET Beauty of the week in February 2006,” Cecily says, of her achievements. “I was also an extra in a UCLA Master Thesis Film called Absolution. I am proud to be a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc and I am proud of the fact that I have numerous published articles.”

“Looks only go so far. You need to get an education and get in them books,” notes Cecily. “My moma always taught me ‘nobody can’t take it away from you once you get it in your head.’ So go to school. Knowledge is power.”
