Entrepreneur, Cenita Johnson

Where She’s From: Entrepreneur Cenita Johnson’s career has traveled – or flown – through many interesting paths. After High School, this former model entered the US Air Force and served as an Electronics Technician for three-and-a-half years.

She decided to pursue a modeling career after being approached by people in the fashion industry. “Despite starting a modeling career at the relatively late age of 23, I managed to carve out a fruitful career working with top agencies such as The Wilhelmina Agency, Elite Models, LA Models, and others, she recalls to The Black Star News. “I worked throughout the US in catalogs, runways, national commercials, as well as television and film appearances.

Cenita also walked the runway ramps in Paris, France. When she decided that retirement was near, she slowed her career to complete a B.S. in Human Relations and Business. “A phone conversation with my dad about his patented invention inspired me to search my home for an idea to create, she recalls. “When I opened my bathroom drawer to a curling iron cover I'd created, a business idea sparked—The Curling Iron Bag. The Curling Iron Bag allows you to store and pack away those irons while hot, she explains. “I initially created the bag for myself after many frustrating years of burning items in my model bag, the bathroom drawer, and luggage.

Cenita then made a few and test marketed it amongst the hairstylist and models at my runway shows and photo shoots. After a great response, she purchased a sewing machine, taught herself to sew and the rest is history.

Where She’s At: Cenita has retired from modeling – although it’s hard to believe looking at her photo – and now devotes her energy to marketing and growing The Curling Iron Bag, which is the rage of Tinsel town. “It’s been purchased by Hollywood's TV and film hairstylists, as well as, starlets such as Kimberly Elise, Kimberly Finnigan and Vanessa Williams, she adds. Cenita also find time to write a weekly inspirational blog and is an empowerment public speaker.

Cenita’s bag is made with the fashionable person in mind and is available in colors such as black, denim and hot pink, and pink with dots. It’s a stylish standout embellished with crystals and available in five sizes for reasonable prices from $9.99 to $39.99.
