*ABOUT TONY HERBERT

Anthony “Tony” Herbert Sr. has a broad range of community and political experience. He is currently Vice President of Government Affairs for a multi-cultural Advertising/Marketing firm. Mr. Herbert has worked for an investment banking firm on Wall St. where he was Senior Vice President of Government Relations/Corporate Marketing and Small Business Development. With a rather impressive political career, Mr. Herbert has also worked for former NY State Senate Minority Counsel Leader, Martin Connor as Director of Community Relations. Mr. Herbert’s responsibilities in the Minority Leader’s office were to identify and build working relationships with community leaders in statewide minority neighborhoods who were victims of voting rights violations and subjected to the dilution of their voting power.

Mr. Herbert represents a new generation of leaders who bring fresh ideas and a pragmatic approach to today’s challenges.  He has served as Special Assistant to New York City Councilwoman Priscilla Wooten.  In this role, Mr. Herbert acquired his skills as a community advocate, fighting for the rights of the residents in the council district to gain access to city services that their tax dollars paid for.  In addition, Mr. Herbert has worked under the leadership of Congressman Edolphus Towns as a volunteer and subsequently, hired as a Special Assistant by the Congressman to represent his leadership in the Fort Greene, Clinton Hill sections of the 10th Congressional District.

To that end, Mr. Herbert has established solid relationships with community and political leaders while in his tenure with the government.  A proven leader and as a progressive, he has extensive experience with the inner workings of the local, state and federal branches of government. Mr. Herbert has worked on volunteer projects with former President, Bill  Clinton and current President, George W. Bush.

Tony Herbert’s interest in public affairs began during his youth. Having come from a single parent home, where his mother was the breadwinner of the family and having had the terrible experience of homelessness, Mr. Herbert learned about commitment to family early on. He was taught the value of hard work and being of service to others. He was a member of the Crown Heights and Clinton Hill Lions Club youth divisions at age 15. Giving back has always been a very important part of who Mr. Herbert is and what he believes in.

Mr. Herbert is an advocate of health issues that affect the lives of all New Yorkers. His special interest in finding cures and early detection of a number of women health issues stems from the loss of his mother to ovarian cancer just a few short years ago, and in having a number of his closest friends diagnosed with fibroid problems.  As a grassroots activist he has taken the lead on this issue and a number of other issues such as Business Ownership, Employment, Economic Development & Community Re-investment, Fair Housing and Education. Mr. Herbert has also been instrumental in organizing annual and monthly business seminars, health and job fairs in order to disseminate information that helps tackle many of these issues.

Mr. Herbert is currently working with several elected officials and community based organizations to organize the first ever Central Brooklyn Youth Council,  a community based organization,  non-governmental voluntary association of Brooklyn youth and organizations that will be established in 2007 to encourage and strengthen our youth and youth organizations while promoting the development of tomorrow’s leaders.

In December of 1996, Mr. Herbert, along with several business associates, helped to form the Professionals Network Organization. The key function of this organization, is to provide young upwardly mobile minorities with opportunities to obtain access to resources and information that will allow each and every one of them growth and to bring them closer to realizing the American dream and becoming part of an “Ownership Society”. Mr. Herbert is a member of the MW Enoch Grand Masonic Lodge, Men’s Caucus for Congressman Towns, the Fort Greene Volunteers, the Prospect Heights and Crown Heights Parent Associations and a number of other civic and professional organizations. Mr. Herbert is a member of Greater Bright Light Missionary Baptist Church and a dedicated father of three fabulous teenagers.
