(Entering Mary's, right, is easy...but try leaving after sampling the delights inside).

The Big Apple is known for having some fantastic food. As the temperature heats up, many people are looking for a refreshing way to take a break, and they’re hitting the jackpot with what’s being offered at Mary’s Dairy by a sexy anime character known as “the Queen of Cream, the Contessa of Chocolate and the Diva of Dessert.â€?

“Mary is a woman of extremes, and she offers ice cream to suit the way we eat today,â€? explains Steve Rappaport, owner of Mary’s Dairy, with locations in the East and West Village. “We cater to the customer who loves indulgence and gourmet food but on most days watches their diet. Some days, they go all out and eat Mary’s over-the-top, super-rich premium exotic ice cream. Other days, they choose Mary’s Likity Lite soft-serve.â€?

Indulge is right. Mary serves up flavors that make even the most sophisticated gourmets reveal that they are still kids at heart. Along with a selection of Sorbets of the Day that include Watermelon and Damson Plum, Mary’s Dairy has a menu that can’t be beat. Her exotic flavors are a big hit with the locals, including such mouth-watering treats as Yin Yang, which bring together Belgian milk-chocolate ice cream and bits of bittersweet Valrhona chocolate; Hawaii Five O, which combines Callebaut chocolate ice cream with macadamia nuts; and a special concoction of Belgian chocolate ice cream with pieces of pistachio halvah, called Sandy.

“Mary serves up something for everyone,â€? says Rappaport. “For those watching their waistline, she has Likity Lite in flavors like cheesecake, peanut butter and cappuccino, weighing in at a mere 15 calories an ounce.â€? She also serves up a mean variety of premium hard ice cream with flavors like Coconut Almond Joy and Cappuccino Kahlua. As more locations open, it will be even more apparent that Mary’s Dairy is sure to become a permanent, long-lasting part of the landscape around New York City.

“We’ve found something that people have really taken a liking to, adds Rappaport. “We’ve had interest from people who would like to franchise, and we are now ready to offer that opportunity. Soon, we’ll have stores throughout the country, so that Mary can serve up her indulgences far and wide.
