Los Angeles, CA (February 28, 2007)—Renowned public relations entrepreneur, author and inspirational speaker Terrie M. Williams has been named the first Honorary Captain of Blue World Travel (BWT), creators of the country’s first African American theme cruise operations.  Blue World Travel is the premier travel and cruise authority for African American vacationers.  As Honorary Captain Williams will host cruises, provide cross-marketing opportunities and strategic networking.

As part of a new promotional and marketing campaign BWT will select an exclusive group of people to become Honorary Captains aboard their special “Festival at Sea cruises. These captains of their fields will be drawn from the worlds of entertainment, sports, politics and media. Each captain who is selected will provide BWT with strategic partnership and cross-marketing opportunities in an effort to reach new target markets. The “Captains will preside in an honorary capacity over the 2,000-3,000 cruise vacationers, hosting various events on and off the ship, fulfilling a ceremonial role during the cruise, and presiding over the donation of funds to several charities. The goal is to bring a sense of fun and celebrity while also incorporating a mix of goodwill and charity.

“I am privileged and honored to be offered Blue World Travel’s first Honorary Captaincy, and I gladly accept it. The opportunity for African Americans to experience the best in luxury travel is unique and uplifting. And BWT’s Festival at Sea also provides a way for our travelers to enjoy themselves, have fun and give back through various fundraisers and activities, said Williams, founder and chair of The Terrie Williams Agency,

Williams is also the founder of The Stay Strong Foundation, a nationwide organization geared to inspire and educate youth; the author of The Personal Touch:  What You Really Need to Succeed in Today’s Fast-Paced Business World; A Plentiful Harvest: Creating Balance and Harmony Through the Seven Living Virtues; and Stay Strong: Simple Life Lessons for Teens. Her new book, Black Pain: It Just Looks Like We’re Not Hurting, will be released later this year by Scribner.

Blue World Travel, now in its 29th year of operation, developed the award-winning Festival at Sea product, which has evolved into a wonderful cruise vacation choice for thousands of African Americans. Special onboard activities include business networking, Bid Whist competitions, electric slide and Chicago Steppin’ classes and contests, and entertainment by such names as Frankie Beverly and Maze, Sinbad, The O’Jays, Stephanie Mills and Tommy Davidson. In addition, onboard auctions and other events have raised funds for the United Negro College Fund and the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship

Fund. Thousands of children’s books have also been donated by travelers to the Caribbean Children’s Book Drive.

Blue World Travel Founder, CEO and President Patricia Yarbrough said of the announcement, “Our industry didn’t just need public relations, it needed representation. We are fortunate to have Terrie Williams as our first Honorary Captain. Her ‘personal touch’ philosophy, her commitment to our young people, and her unparalleled connections in so many different fields will enable us to successfully reach new target markets and help us give back to our communities. I felt it was BWT’s responsibility as a leader in hospitality and international travel to set the standards.

The new promotional campaign for BWT was created by Recycling Inspiration (RI), a cause-related international brand marketing company. In addition to the Honorary Captains, the campaign will consist of several functions with the mutual benefit of capturing prime audiences, promoting successful lifestyles and celebrating achievement. Other elements include: Blue Screen Films, which will provide an opportunity for African American directors to debut their films and plays on BWT cruises and at BWT resort locations; honoring national church ministers who made an outstanding difference in their communities. The first minister being honored is Bishop Kenneth C. Ulmer, senior pastor/teacher of Faithful Central Bible Church of Inglewood, CA. Special church services will take place on board and BWT will provide to the ministers a 7-day cruise package as a fundraising tool for their congregations; Blue Ribbon/Book Blue World—as the #1 in African American travel BWT also promotes literacy by encouraging all of its travelers to bring along a children’s book that will be donated to the local communities visited during the trip; the Recharge Retreat, an event in Negril, Jamaica, that will bring eight RI “Ambassadors together to thank them for their work, provide them with a fabulous vacation, and allow them the opportunity to discuss how they can build strategic alliances among their respective communities.

Continuing their traveling excellence, BWT and RI present the first “360-Degree Annual Black College Graduation Celebration at Breezes Super Club –an exclusive resort owned by Super Clubs– in breathtaking Runaway Bay, Jamaica, from May 14-18, 2007. Recent Black college graduates who attend will be celebrated for their achievement and encouraged to pursue their dreams and goals. It will also be an opportunity for graduates to enjoy luxury travel, strengthen their networking foundation, and establish new business relationships. Through a panel lead by Williams, noted inspirational and business speakers will impart invaluable career advice to the graduates while sharing information about the importance of brother/sisterhood and service within the Black community.
