Akbar Rogers’ arrest on December 3, 2019, by Freeport Village Police, in Nassau County, Long Island, NY was captured on a cellphone video that went viral.

Akbar Rogers said of the brutal assault by police “I was almost George Floyd.”

The video showed approximately 4 out of 8 officers appearing to punch the suspect while he was on the ground yelling for help. Another officer appeared to kick Rogers, 44, who was pulled over a chain-link fence and eventually pinned to the ground behind a home on East Seaman Avenue.

Rogers can be heard screaming as he was repeatedly beaten and tasered–while lying on the ground, facedown.

At one point, Rogers can be heard saying, “I can’t breathe.” To this, one officer replied, “fuck you!”

A total of 10 officers appear in the video.

How is Rogers’ story different from George Floyd’s?

Rogers survived… and his story was just about to be told before the COVID-19 pandemic took over the news cycle.

A concerned citizen, who tapped the video can be heard throughout the video complaining about the conduct of the officers. At one point, the female citizen talks about the “extreme” and “ridiculous” nature of the assault she videotaped by the police officers in Freeport.

As Rogers is being taken away, he can be heard saying “look at my face.” The concerned citizen shouted to him “I’ve got it all on tape don’t worry.”

Rogers was charged with assaulting cops. The video evidence shows the Freeport Village Police were lying.

Roger’s lawyer, Randy Zelin of Wilk Auslander, was able to get the bogus criminal charges that were filed against Mr. Rogers dropped. The district attorney thought this would be good enough, and that the case would be a done deal.

In response, Zelin said, “It’s like we went out for a steak dinner and were only served stale bread and water. We’re not finished here.”

Mr. Rogers said that it was “by the grace of God” that he did not die that day.
