A press conference concerning Carl Dorsey, who was killed by a Newark police detective, will be held New Year’s Day, Sunday, January 1, 2023, 12:00 noon, in front of 153 Halsey Street, Newark, NJ. The press conference is being called by the People’s Organization For Progress (POP).

The purpose of the press conference is to to call upon the NJ State Attorney General to take action on the case of Carl Dorsey, killed by a Newark police detective two years ago. Offices of the NJ State Attorney General are located at 153 Halsey Street.

Mr Dorsey was killed January 1, 2021 in Newark, New Jersey. New Year’s Day will mark the second anniversary of his death.

Speaking at the event will be members of Carl Dorsey’s family, the family members of other police brutality victims, and community activists.

POP together with members of the Dorsey family are demanding a report from the office of the NJ State Attorney General on the investigation into Mr Dorsey’s death.

“The Attorney General’s office has had this case for two years. We have not had an official statement on the progress of the case during that time. Two years is too long,” stated Lawrence Hamm, Chairman, People’s Organization For Progress.

POP is also calling for the City of Newark to fire the detective that killed Dorsey, a federal investigation into his death by the U.S. Attorney for New Jersey to determine if his civil rights were violated, and the establishment of police review boards in Newark and other municipalities with subpoena and investigatory powers.
