New York Police Department officers started beating and macing some New Yorkers protesting the brutal May 25 murder of George Floyd tonight shortly before 9PM in Cadman Plaza, Brooklyn, a witness calling Black Star News said.
New York City has imposed a 8PM to 5AM curfew. “They just beat up a Caucasian woman. They’re macing people,” the witness said.
There were “about 2,000” demonstrators and “hundreds” of police, the caller said. “They are being very aggressive about it.”
The police were trying to disperse the protest, after the curfew hours.
The caller said the protest was peaceful and that most people had knelt down to protest the execution of Floyd by Derek Chauvin of the Minneapolis police department last week. Chauvin was arrested and charged with third degree murder last week. The charge was upgraded to second degree today.
Chauvin choked Floyd to death with his knee as the victim and bystanders begged him to let him breathe.
Three other ex-officers were also charged with aiding and abetting the murder today. They are: Tou That, J. Alexander Kueng, and Thomas Lane.
