NEW YORK, July 25 – During an interview on the Toure Show podcast today, Democratic Presidential Hopeful and U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-N.J.) pushed back on Fox News’ commentator Tucker Carlson’s description of him as the “Whitest Black guy” he’s ever seen.

In a wide-ranging interview, Booker tells Touré that he didn’t pay any attention to Carlson or other people who have talked about his race.

“I would have given it some attention maybe when I was 17 or 18 and many of us, we're trying to figure out identity issues. Who am I? What is Blackness? I mean literally, I would sit around at Ujamaa and have conversations. Is it the music you listen to? I mean Arthur Ash was considered like playing this white sport, who does he think he is. I got to a point when I was coming of age as a young 20-something person, who was being pulled over by the police, surrounded by cops, guns drawn, screaming at me - that I was black because of a struggle.”

Booker discusses why he still lives in Newark and doesn’t hesitate to shovel driveways during the winter and rescue people from fires.
