Friday, November 20, 2015 marks one year since 28-year-old Akai Gurley was shot and killed by NYPD Officer Peter Liang while he and his partner, Officer Shaun Landau, patrolled the NYCHA Louis H. Pink Houses in East New York, Brooklyn.

Three months after the incident, Liang was indicted by a Brooklyn grand jury on multiple charges, including second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, among others. Liang’s partner Shaun Landau received immunity in exchange for testifying against Liang.

On Friday, Akai Gurley’s family and representatives of the Justice for Akai Gurley Family Committee will meet with Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson and Assistant District Attorney Marc Fliedner to ask questions about the upcoming criminal trial and call for their commitment to rigorous and thorough prosecution. That evening Gurley’s family will hold a rally and vigil in his honor.

Rally Friday in front of Pink Houses, 2724 Linden Blvd, Brooklyn, New York.
