1. The Harlem Great Debate: Mary McCloud Bethune or Booker T Washington?
Clarke House Black History Great Debate #3 – February 15th 3:P.M. “ Who was The Greater, Dr. Booker T. Washington or the Honorable Dr. Mary McCloud Bethune” Debaters are Dr. Tyrene Wright and James C. McIntosh, M.D.
Dr. Wright is so widely known for her depth of knowledge and fierce debating skills that it was difficult finding an opponent for this debate. Dr. McIntosh stepped up to the plate believing that he was equal to the task.
Dr. Wright’s research into Dr. Booker T Washington’s little known behind the scenes activism has led her write a book called BOOKER T. WASHINGTON AND AFRICA. Dr. Wright is convinced that Dr. Booker T. Washington was a leader without equal.
“Not so” claims Dr. McIntosh, Dr. Bethune’s work embodied the internationalism of Garvey, the Activism of W.E.B. Dubois, the organizing of A Phillip Randolph and the Self Help and Economic Self Development of Booker T. Washington.
The Debate is On said Dr. McIntosh, then repeating what has become his mantra during these debates, “There will be no losers at The BEPAA Black History Debates only winners and learners.”
The debates are a unique way of observing African Heritage Month by revisiting the greatness of leaders who challenged racism by building institutions, uniting our race.
Debate #2 will be held at the Dr. John Henrik Clarke House located at 286 Convent Avenue in Harlem. Admission is free. For information call 347-907 0629
2. CEMOTAP GUEST SPEAKER: HUGH HAMILTON
Hugh Hamilton will be CEMOTAP’S African Heritage Month Speaker on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 2:P.M. He will critique the film “SELMA” and offer his insight as to its role in African history.
CEMOTAP, Committee to Eliminate Media Offensive to African People, is bringing this master journalist and communicator back by popular demand. Widely known for his depth of social, political and cultural knowledge, he is considered by many to be without equal as an investigative journalist. During his years as host of his popular program “Talk Back” on radio station WBAI, Hamilton challenged political inconsistencies, racism and economic injustice. Continuing to serve in the advisory capacity to several community development organizations, he earns the highest praise from his growing constituency as the most informed advocate for truth. 5. Love Yourself, Love Your Freedom: Official Welcome Home Celebration for Sekou Odinga

Existence is Resistance, The Sekou Odinga Defense Committee and The Campaign to Bring Mumia Home present this all day celebration and fundraiser for recently released political prisoner of 34 years, Sekou Odinga.
Sekou Odinga was a u.s.-held political prisoner imprisoned 34 years for fighting for the freedom of Black people and the building of the Republic of New Afrika. He was released November 25, 2014 into the arms of family, comrades and friends.
Supporting organizations, Zulu Nation, Copwatch, Brotherhood SisterSol, Rebel Diaz Arts Collective, NY Black Panthers, Party for Socialism and Liberation will be in attendance with various tables including activities such as letter writing to political prisoners and information on knowing your rights.
We will be showing two amazing documentaries:
