Officer Randolph Holder

It is with deep sadness that I join our City as we mourn the great loss of New York Police Department Officer Randolph Holder who was tragically shot while on duty in our beloved community of East Harlem. My heart goes out to his family, loved ones and fellow officers and friends during this very difficult time.

Officer Randolph was a brave young man and dedicated public servant, who followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather as a third generation police officer. A valiant officer, he was awarded five Excellent Police Duty awards and one Meritorious Police Duty award.

As an immigrant from Guyana, Office Randolph was in the process of achieving his American Dream to wed the love of his life, being a proud father, closing on his first home in Valley Stream and working toward his detective gold shield as an outstanding member of New York’s Finest cut down in the prime of his life.

There is absolutely no place for such horrific act of violence against our police officers who serve to protect our community. I applaud the NYPD for moving quickly in arresting the suspect and making sure justice is delivered.

Rep. Charles B. Rangel, represents the 13th Congressional District of New York that includes Upper Manhattan and parts of the Bronx.
