Zellnor Myrie, Democratic candidate for New York state senate district 20 has been endorsed by U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.

Myrie is an insurgent progressive, running to unseat a member of the now-disbanded IDC. Senator Gillibrand joins four of her Democratic colleagues in Congress and more than a dozen state and city Democratic officials in New York in endorsing Myrie.

Senator Gillibrand also announced that she will march alongside Myrie in the West Indian Day Paradon Monday, September 3.

“I am proud to support Zellnor Myrie for New York State Senate District 20. We need progressive partners at the state level to fight back vigorously against the Trump Administration. Zellnor will be such a partner,” Gillibrand said. “Zellnor is a man of strength and integrity. He grew up in a rent-stabilized apartment in Central Brooklyn, was educated in Brooklyn public schools, and has worked in his community fighting for stop-and-frisk reform and writing the Tenants’ Bill of Rights. Zellnor will be Central Brooklyn’s advocate on pressing issues — from addressing the affordable housing crisis to reforming the institutional racism of the criminal justice system to protecting our immigrant communities from President Trump’s heartless use of ICE. To defend New Yorkers against the Trump Administration, we need committed and unified Democrats in Albany. That’s why I urge you to vote for Zellnor Myrie for State Senate on Thursday, September 13th.”

“I am deeply proud to have the support of Senator Gillibrand. Senator Gillibrand has been a vocal opponent of the Trump Administration and has fought since President Trump’s first day in office to oppose his horrific policies,” Myrie said. “Together, we stand united against the Republican agenda and committed to defeating the fake Democrats who will support it. With less than two weeks to go until Primary Day on Thursday, September 13th, record numbers of federal, state, and city Democratic officials in New York have come out in support of our campaign. Democrats around the State are issuing a call to action for Democrats in Central Brooklyn to reject the status quo. We are saying no to corruption, we are saying no to politics as usual, and we are saying yes to new leadership for the 20th Senate District on Thursday, September 13th.”
