The Duke Alumni Association (DAA), will host a public Community Health and Fitness Day on Saturday, April 30 from 9:30am – 3:00pm in Harlem.
The event will be hosted in partnership with The Children’s Aid Society on the premises of their Dunlevy Milbank Boys & Girls Club, where members of the Duke Club of New York (DCNY) volunteer monthly. The event will offer to the community, free of charge, basic medical screenings, fitness classes, nutrition/wellness seminars, and healthy cooking classes to encourage the kinds of lifestyle choices that help prevent diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and other preventable medical conditions.

DAE NYC anticipates serving approximately 400 local residents –adults and children– from the greater Harlem community, with the participation and support of more than 100 Duke University alumni volunteers.

Duke Alums Engage takes community service to a new level by offering an opportunity for Duke alumni, friends and family to participate in service-learning projects that address identified needs in their communities. Previously, in 2009, DAE-NYC partnered with City Meals on Wheels and Action Center to End World Hunger for a day of action, education and reflection on hunger.

In 2008 and 2009, more than 600 people in 20 cities around the United States took part in Duke Alums Engage projects. For further information about the program, please visit www.dukealumsengage.com. Dunlevy Milbank Boys & Girls Club is located at 14-32 West 118th Street, Harlem.
