Hustlin’ to Save Youth

HustleUniversity.org’s Hotep Founder and President of HustleUniversity.Org , has announced his plan to combat the high-school graduation crisis facing inner cities across the nation.

Hotep, Founder and President of HustleUniversity.Org, has announced his plan to combat the high-school graduation crisis facing inner cities across the nation. At the end of April, he will be launching The Hustle University Essay Contest. This announcement comes on the heels of a report that found students from the 50 largest cities have only about a 50% chance of earning a high school diploma.

Hotep is an elementary school teacher and author whose work has recently been recognized by Congressman Hank Johnson, representing Georgia’s Fourth Congressional District, at a forum for making education a priority among Black males. His self-empowerment book The Hustler’s 10 Commandments is increasingly becoming one of the most popular non-fiction books among urban teens and young adults. The book’s effectiveness at motivating youth has caught the attention of public libraries, schools and juvenile centers in Georgia who use the book to help young people make better decisions, deal with peer pressure and cultivate a success-driven attitude in school.

“The key to the book’s effectiveness with the youth is its language and sensibilities,” says Hotep “We live in a country where high school dropouts become millionaires and college graduates struggle living check to check. Today’s youth no longer see the correlation between getting an education and being successful. The Hustler’s 10 Commandments bridges this gap. It appeals to young people’s drive for success and desire to be respected by their peers. Pop culture has many of our youth wanting to be hustlers; but they don’t realize that to hustle means to act aggressively when it comes to business dealings. A young person’s business is to get an education. This essay contest will demonstrate to youth the direct relationship between hard work (hustling), education and success.”

If anyone knows about reaching young minds, it’s Hotep. Besides being a successful author and filmmaker, he is a 12-year veteran educator in Georgia’s Public School System. He currently teaches Kindergarten in Dekalb County and holds monthly entrepreneur classes at Morehouse College.

The Hustle University Essay Contest will be open to Georgia High School and College students. (Other cities will be included after this initial launch) Hotep is seeking partners to provide funding for prizes, scholarships and book giveaways. For details visit: www.HustleUniversity.org
