Jamaal Bowman recently delivered a stunning defeat against Eliot Engel in NY-16 district race.

With an additional 1.4 million Americans filing for unemployment last week, Jamaal Bowman released the following statement calling for a green stimulus and universal basic income:

“We are facing an economic crisis, unlike any this country has seen in decades, that demands urgent and innovative investments in infrastructure and our economy to help bring millions of people safely back into the workforce. We need a bold recovery plan that focuses on universal basic income to provide immediate financial relief, and a green stimulus that invests in frontline communities, creates good jobs for a clean energy economy, and safeguards us from the climate crisis.

“New York City will end this year with 500,000 fewer jobs, and 20 percent of people in the United States have filed for unemployment, but short-term aid packages aren’t cutting it for communities like mine that were hit hardest by coronavirus. Congress must choose transformational action that delivers economic relief and lays the foundation for a green economy and a sustainable future for both workers and the planet.”
