Adem Bunkeddeko, Democrat challenging Yvette Clarke in NY-9, has been endorsed by United Auto Workers (UAW) Region 9A, his first union endorsement of the campaign.

The support comes on the heels of Bunkeddeko’s strong performance in NY1’s debate.

“We are proud to support Adem Bunkeddeko for Congress. Our members come from all walks of life, but are united in their belief that we can build a more just society, and Adem Bunkeddeko shares that belief and will fight for that vision in Congress. We need representatives like Adem, who will fight for criminal justice reforms on a national level, stand up for workers’ rights, and deliver for his community,” said Beverley Brakeman, Regional Director of UAW 9A.

“I am honored to have the support of UAW 9A, the trust that the membership has in me means the world to me. Our communities are hurting, and having allies who share our clear-eyed vision for systemic change is humbling. I look forward to going to Washington and working with the union to ensure a just recovery post COVID-19, and to reform the criminal justice system,” said Bunkeddeko.

Now in the last month of the campaign, Bunkeddeko’s coalition continues to grow as UAW 9A joins over 20 community leaders, anti-corruption activist Zephyr Teachout, Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, the Arena PAC, Empire State Indivisible, LAMBDA Independent Democrats, Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club, Leadership Now, and NYPAN in supporting Bunkeddeko.
