Wednesday, Congressmember Adriano Espaillat endorsed Comptroller Scott Stringer’s campaign for Mayor of the City of New York.

Congressmember Espaillat, the first formerly undocumented immigrant to serve in Congress, touted Stringer as the mayor that New York City and immigrant New Yorkers need to lead the recovery from COVID-19, which has disproportionately impacted immigrant communities.

Congressmember Adriano Espaillat said: “Scott Stringer has spent his life standing up for immigrant communities, fighting for marginalized New Yorkers, and leading the way for all of our working families. I know Scott will tackle the disparities laid bare by COVID-19, and lead a recovery that ensures no one is left behind. As Comptroller, Scott has worked tirelessly for immigrant entrepreneurs and to make City government a bulwark against attacks from the Trump administration. From helping to lead the fight to expand driver’s licenses to undocumented immigrants to demanding equity for immigrant business owners to advancing protections for immigrant delivery workers to championing an innovative proposal to help immigrants achieve the dream of citizenship, Scott Stringer has been in the fight. He has the vision, the experience, and the ideas to bring leadership back to City Hall and build a city that is truly for everyone—because he’s proven it time and again. That’s why I’m proud to endorse Scott Stringer for Mayor of New York.”

Comptroller Scott Stringer said: “Congressmember Espaillat is a trailblazer and a tenacious fighter for immigrant communities and all New Yorkers in Washington. His life story is an example of what New York City is all about at its best—a place where immigrants can thrive and write the great chapters of New York’s journey. I’m proud to have him by my side in this campaign and to partner with him on a vision for our city that stands up to any threat from Washington, welcomes immigrants and recognizes that investing in them is about investing in New York’s present—and future. We need an equitable recovery from COVID-19, which means we have to expand the circle of opportunity in New York, and live up to our tradition as a city of immigrants. There’s no stronger ally in this fight than Adriano Espaillat.”

Congressmember Espaillat’s endorsement follows support for the Stringer campaign from prominent leaders who represent the vanguard of New York City’s progressive movement, including:

Democratic nominee for Congress Jamaal Bowman (D-Bronx) Sen. Alessandra Biaggi (D-Bronx) Sen. Robert Jackson (D-Manhattan) Sen. Brian Kavanagh (D-Brooklyn & Manhattan) Sen. Jessica Ramos (D-Queens) Sen. Julia Salazar (D-Brooklyn) Assemblymember Robert Carroll (D-Brooklyn) Assemblymember Catalina Cruz (D-Queens) Assemblymember Yuh-Line Niou (D-Manhattan) Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal (D-Manhattan) Assemblymember Al Taylor (D-Manhattan) Democratic nominee for Assembly Amanda Septimo (D-Bronx)
