Today, Representative Ayanna Pressley endorsed Jamaal Bowman for Congress in New York’s 16th District -- another progressive heavyweight endorsing Jamaal’s candidacy in the final stretch before election day.

Congresswoman Pressley joins fellow squad-member Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and progressive icons Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Bernie Sanders, and Representative Katie Porter in her support for Jamaal. This endorsement also follows a new poll showing Jamaal Bowman with a 10 point lead over 31-year incumbent Eliot Engel, with Bowman at 41% and Engel at 31%, with 27% undecided.

Part of the blue wave in 2018, Representative Pressley has proven herself as a fearless advocate for justice and equity. A leader on criminal justice reform and champion for workers, Pressley deeply understands the issues that her constituents face and she fights tirelessly for them.

“We need leaders like Jamaal Bowman in Congress now more than ever. As a 20-year public school educator in New York, Jamaal knows what it means to build community and fight for those too often left out and left behind. In Congress, Jamaal will continue to advance bold solutions -- fighting to end mass incarceration and working to actualize the People’s Justice Guarantee,” said Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley. “Jamaal will be relentless in his commitment to universal health care, affordable housing, and environmental justice. He will never forget who he represents or who he is accountable to – the people. I’m so glad to endorse Jamaal for Congress, and I look forward to working with him in Congress to achieve bold, progressive change.”

“I am thrilled to have received Congresswoman Pressley’s endorsement,” said Jamaal Bowman. “Her inspiring 2018 campaign invigorated people in her district who had been ignored for far too long, and now she fights for all of her constituents every day in Congress. Representative Pressley exemplifies the value of engaged and present leadership. I am so proud to have earned her support in this primary.”

Congresswoman Pressley’s endorsement continues the tidal wave of momentum for Jamaal Bowman heading into election day. Last week, Jamaal earned the pivotal New York Times endorsement, a powerful recognition of the grassroots organization Jamaal has built in the 16th District. And Jamaal’s grassroots army is leaving no stone unturned, helping makeover 600,000 calls to the district and sending over 18,000 handwritten postcards to voters.

With less than a week until election day, Jamaal could not be surging at a better time. New York’s 16th Primary will take place on Tuesday, June 23rd.
