Leading progressive organizations Lambda Independent Democrats (LID), Empire State Indivisible, and Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club have endorsed Adem Bunkeddeko in the crowded Congressional primary in NY-9.

With support from LID and Jim Owles, Bunkeddeko solidifies his allyship with the LGBTQ+ community and grows his coalition in Central Brooklyn. Jim Owles Liberal Democrat Club was one of the only clubs to endorse Bunkeddeko in his insurgent campaign against established incumbent Yvette Clarke in 2018, and he is grateful to have their support again this cycle. Every day that Trump is in office, he threatens the civil rights of LGBTQ+ Americans everywhere. Bunkeddeko is ready to fight alongside LID and Jim Owles against hate and discrimination.

“For us, it’s all about getting out into our communities and doing the work to engage with people one-on-one, and that kind of commitment is what we look for in candidates,” said Shannon Stagman, co-lead Organizer of Empire State Indivisible. “Adem focuses on the people of his district – they’re his priority. Politics can often feel removed from everyday life, but Adem is out there connecting with his community members every day. He’s ready to take their fights to Washington.”

Empire State Indivisible plans to bolster the Bunkeddeko campaign with volunteers to collect ballot petition signatures, canvass, and support get-out-the-vote efforts.

With these recent endorsements, Bunkedekko now leads in endorsements in the NY-9 primary. To date, Bunkeddeko has been endorsed by anti-corruption activist Zephyr Teachout, the Arena PAC, Empire State Indivisible, Lambda Independent Democrats, and Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club.

Through a career in public service, Bunkeddeko has tried to pay forward the sacrifices his family, who fled civil war in Uganda to start a life in America. He previously served on Brooklyn Community Board #8 where the people of his neighborhood have been turning for help because their elected representatives have neglected the affordable housing crisis. He is running on a platform of affordable housing, immigration reform, environmental justice, and criminal justice reform – issues which have caused vast inequality and injustice for the community.
