330 additional officers will boost patrols in 10 targeted precincts, 4 targeted police service areas
Mayor de Blasio and NYPD Commissioner Bratton have announced the launch of “Summer All Out,” a targeted anti-violence officer deployment program focused on high-crime areas across the city.
Following last year’s successful implementation of Summer All Out and other summer initiatives, the NYPD will temporarily reassign 330 administrative officers to boost patrols in 10 high-crime precincts and four high-crime police service areas. The NYPD will also partner with community members, social service providers, and police organizations to specifically target gangs and street crews.
“We are committed to keeping New York City the safest big city in America, and Summer All Out will directly target our officers toward the areas of our city that need them most,” said Mayor de Blasio. “Summer All Out has a proven track record of success, and utilizes our best tactics – from state-of-the-art crime data analysis to dedicated on-the-ground officer patrols – to help keep all our city’s residents safe and protected throughout the summer months.”
“Summer All Out is one of many crime fighting initiatives that allows the NYPD to prioritize resources in order to strategically address and thwart the rate of gun violence and gang activity. New York City is one of the largest safe cities in America, but unfortunately, that level of safety is not present in all of our communities,” said Police Commissioner William J. Bratton. “In implementing Summer All Out, we are striving to ensure that every person in this City will have a sense of safety and security.”
2014 was one of the safest years on record in New York City, with a record low of 333 homicides. Last year’s Summer All Out initiative and other efforts by the NYPD to reduce crime resulted in decreases in violent crimes compared to the same time period in 2013:
Between July 8 and October 5, 2014, the following crime outcomes occurred in the 10 targeted precincts:
· There were 25.8 percent fewer homicides compared to the same period in 2013
· There were 19.5 percent fewer shooting incidents compared to the same period in 2013
· There were 22 percent fewer shooting victims compared to the same period in 2013
Overall Crime in Targeted Precincts:
· The 77th Precinct saw the greatest drop in overall crime, with a 28.4 percent decrease
· The 39th and 113th Precincts saw a drop of 13 percent in overall crime
Shooting Incidents in Targeted Precincts:
· 53 percent decrease in the 113th Precinct
· 53 percent decrease in the 42nd Precinct
· 41 percent decrease in the 75th Precinct
· 24 percent decrease in the 67th Precinct
