Buchaman Farm: Museveni’s Gimmick To Counter Bobi Wine’s Youth Popularity

Bobi Wine (above right front) is very popular with Ugandan youth, a reality that is politically problematic for dictator Gen.Yoweri Museveni.

Shortly before last year’s General Elections, Gen. Yoweri Museveni appointed singer Mark Bugembe aka Buchaman as presidential adviser on Ghetto Affairs.

This appointment came after Gen. Museveni’s meeting with a group of National Resistance Movement (NRM) “youth” in Kibuye.

The idea behind the meeting was not to uplift the ghetto youth. Rather, Gen. Museveni met the ghetto youth to serve as a counterweight to Bobi Wine’s popularity amongst the youth, especially the ghetto youth.

In other words, Buchaman, who is the former vice president of the Fire Base Crew of which Bobi Wine is crew president, was being used as a trojan horse to stymie the rise and dominance of Bobi Wine in Uganda politics.

The assumption here was that the rump of Bobi’s and the National Unity Platform’s (NUP) supporters would be eroded once its ghetto supporters were taken by Buchaman’s (read Gen. Museveni’s) camp.

Thus, Buchaman, who rose to fame in 2005 after passionately asking the ladies, Lwaki Temumatira? (Why don’t you like me?), is knowingly or unknowingly helping Gen. Museveni to keep the ghetto youth down.

How?

It is simple.

Bobi Wine, who won last year’s presidential elections, represents a future whose time has arrived.

To be sure, Bobi’s popularity has little or scant to do with his person, but everything to do with his being the very personification of the future and all that it could bring to the youth of Uganda.

To fight Bobi, then, is to fight the inevitable rise of the youth to their rightful place in the upper echelons of leadership in the country.

All told, Gen. Museveni is known to be an opponent of youth progress; regardless of his protestations to the contrary.

We all know that the precious few young people he is working with are part of a tokenistic smokescreen to hoodwink the majority of the youth that his junta cares. It does not.

Buchaman has unwittingly shown Gen. Museveni’s callousness by allegedly travelling around the various ghettos of Kampala. He has been seen in Kabalagala, Kisenyi, Katanga, Kireka, and several others slums, picking up youth who are down at the heel.

These youth are frequently drug addicts, lost to the world in a haze of weed smoke and other illicit intoxicants.
Totally broken, they allegedly give themselves to Buchaman and he duly takes them to a government farm in Wakiso for “rehabilitation”.

This farm, known as Buchaman’s farm amongst ghetto dwellers, is a government-run farm.

While there, the youth are reportedly told that they are there to become right-thinking members of society.

Thereafter, they are plied with a lot of NRM propaganda and lies. Then, and this is when it gets really dark, they are pumped with the same illicit drugs they were rescued from in the first place!

Yes, this farm allegedly gives drugs to drug addicts in order to cure them of their addiction to drugs!

If this sounds ironic, it is no less ironic than having a superannuated president such as Gen. Museveni refusing to yield office to younger folk in the name of working on behalf of said younger folk.

What is allegedly happening on Buchaman’s farm is a clear indication of how Gen. Museveni’s junta is “helping” the youth.

Gen. Museveni, a cynical pseudo-Marxist, possibly believes that deception is the opiate of the masses.

He has deceived Ugandans into thinking Milton Obote, Kizza Besigye and now Bobi Wine are the evildoers in Uganda. All the while, he styles himself as a paragon of virtue.

However, what is going on behind all this deception is death, despoil and the devastation of an entire youthful generation through gambits such as what is alleged to be Buchaman’s farm.

We thus challenge the Museveni junta to come out on this issue and show us the work Buchaman is doing for the ghetto youth.

Anything short of this should be treated with the contempt we reserve for every other nefarious act that has been perpetrated by Museveni’s junta.
