Carl Paladino: El Loco!

Would Dolan have similarly embraced Paladino had the crackpot from Buffalo sent out a video depicting the Pope having intercourse with a horse? So why is it okay for Dolan when Paladino sends out racist e-mail messages about the nation’s first African American president? Why is it okay when he sends out an image of a woman and horse copulating? One would expect understanding from a church still reeling from the priestly pedophilia scandals.

The word El Loco must have been coined in anticipation of a vile character and hypocrite like Carl Paladino.

His words and actions leave no other conclusion but that he’s racist, sexist, and homophobic. Here is a grown up, multi-millionaire, and so-called “family values” man sending racist e-mail messages to his colleagues. One message depicts President Obama as a pimp and Michelle as a prostitute; the subject line reads “White House Ball.” Paladino also sent an image of Africans depicted as “savages” dancing around and said it represented Obama’s Presidential inauguration.

Yes, that is the Republican candidate for governor of New York state sending out messages of intense hatred and malice.
When one recipient he’d forwarded the message to objected, Paladino shot back: “I apologize to you and everyone if that is offensive. To me it’s just humor. I’m not a racist and have never related Obama’s color to my political distaste for him.”

Paladino added for good measure, that “oversensitivity to black/white is wrong and in itself demeaning.”

Another image Paladino sent out shows what appears to be an out-of-control turbo-prop cargo plan landing on a dirt airstrip with Black people fleeing ahead of the it. The photo caption reads: “Holy Shit. Run niggers, run!” Paladino is reported to have sent a video of a woman shown having intercourse with a horse.

Perhaps this explains his lack of respect for women. Paladino opposes a woman’s right to choose and objects to abortions even in cases of rape and incest. Paladino opposes homosexuality and believes in the sanctity of marriages between a man and a woman. He was recently invited to speak before a group of Hassidic Jews and that’s when he started his verbal assault against gays.

There’s “nothing to be proud of in being a dysfunctional homosexual” Paladino declared to his audience. The timing could not have been more awful, coming a few days after the reported attacks by a gang in the Bronx against three males suspected of being gay. The attacks included physical pounding, sodomy with a plunger handle, and being burnt with a cigarette in one case, according to news accounts.

Paladino did not denounce the hateful attack. Instead his message amounts to: “I hate gays.” One wonders what this prospective governor will say should another such attack occur.

Paladino does not seem to be mentally balanced — he certainly has the look of a wild eyed crackpot. A mad man with money. This “family values” man fathered a girl, now aged 10, with his mistress. He has only recently revealed this information to his wife. Yet he had the temerity to accuse Andrew Cuomo, flag bearer of the Democratic Party and its candidate for governor, of adultery while he was married to his now ex-wife.

He somewhat backed off when he was confronted by Fred Dicker, a New York Post reporter who demanded that he provide evidence. Instead of backing up his nonsense, Paladino threatened to “take out” the Post photographer. It is remarkable that he was not arrested and remains a candidate.

Paladino is a spineless bully. What’s more disturbing is the number of people who take this character seriously or don’t think his ugly and divisive statements are a big deal. By a two-to-one margin, Paladino crushed Rick Lazio in the Republican primaries. Several thousand New Yorkers, especially the Tea-Party nuts must have concluded: so what that the man is a racist, a sexist, and a homophobe?

Why would sane people treat Paladino as if his words are not dangerous? Why would Archbishop Timothy Dolan, for example, embrace a man of hate like Paladino as he did during the Columbus Day parade without confronting him about his ugly racist, sexist and homophobic statements and e-mail messages?

We wanted the Archbishop to address the matter and contacted the New York archdiocese. Here’s the PR-type response spokesperson Kate Monaghan sent on behalf of Dolan: “During the course of the Columbus Day parade many people, including candidates and city officials, stopped at the steps of St. Patrick’s. Both Mr. Cuomo and Mr. Paladino greeted the Archbishop who offered them both best wishes and a promise of prayers. The Archdiocese of New York does not endorse or oppose candidates.”

Dolan owes the public a serious apology.

Paladino, a supreme El Loco, does not need legitimization from Dolan or any other prominent public figure. Unless of course such individuals see nothing wrong with El Loco’s message of hate.

“Speaking Truth To Empower.”
