Danny Simmons, Creator of HBO’s Def Poetry Headlines “I Love To Read” Book Fair

HBO’s Def Poetry Creator, Danny Simmons Headlines “I Love To Read” Book Fair.  The institution was created in 2008 by Basha Riddick and Phil Andrews as a tribute to the contribution of African Americans and Multi-cultural communities to the literary arena.

Artist, Novelist, Poet and creator of HBO’s Groundbreaking Def Poetry Jam, Danny Simmons is scheduled to headline this, the 2nd Annual I Love to Read Book Fair & Barack Obama, The 1st African American President of United States of America Black History Month Celebration, February 2009.

Simmons is currently promoting his newest book, I Dreamed My People Were Calling But I Couldn't Find My Way Home, which was recently published by Moore Black Press.

Last year, Dominic Carter, political anchor and host of NY1’s “Inside City Hall” who authored of the riveting chronicle of his troubled childhood at the hands of his schizophrenic mom entitled, “No Momma’s Boy,” headlined the rapidly emerging institution, and authors nationwide participated from a variety of genres. Carter will be honored at this year’s festivities for his live’s work as a hero of political journalism, generous mentorship to youth and a positive imagery for African Americans and all people.

This year’s all day, family friendly extravaganza, hosted by Pastor Edwin Gomez and Pastor Gus Rodriguez, will take place Saturday, February 28th from 12:00 noon until 9:00 pm at New Baptist Temple Church, located at 360 Schermerhorn Street, Brooklyn, NY, across from the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM).

The largely popular “Authors’ Slam” will take place from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.  The first ten authors to register early will get to compete.  Registration deadline to enter the competition is January 31st.

Authors are encouraged to bring books, tables and displays. Reading and sales will be happening all day, from noon until 9:00 pm.
