NYSDOT’s Office of Civil Rights will be conducting the day-long workshop as part of Governor David Paterson’s effort to improve the economy and create jobs for disadvantaged and minority groups across New York State.

NYSDOT will co-host the event with the Empire State Development Corporation (ESDC), the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).  The conference is supported by the Federal Highway Administration.

Commissioner Glynn, who serves on the NYSMWBE Executive Leadership Council, expects that publicizing and explaining the process will help more small businesses contribute to the Department of Transportation’s projects.

The NYSMWBE Executive Leadership Council is a group of commissioners and executive directors from New York State agencies, departments and authorities who seek to improve the participation of women- and minority-owned businesses in the state’s procurement process.

Next month’s workshops will educate businesses on the differences between the state’s Minority- and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (M/WBE) Program and the Federal government’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Program and how businesses can qualify for each.  Individual assistance will be available for DBE and M/WBE applicants.

In addition to the workshops, presentations will be made regarding the upcoming integrated letting schedules of the downstate capital programs and the proposed federal economic recovery program.  Prime and sub contractors and consultants are encourage to attend this networking and informational event.
