The funeral for hip-hop star Russell Jones, also known as Ol' Dirty Bastard (O.D.B.), will be held this Thursday (11/18) at the Christian Cultural Center. Mr. Jones was born in 1969 and raised in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn. He was considered a pioneer in the world of hip-hop music. Together with two of his cousins, he formed the group Wu-Tang Clan, which went on to become one of the most influential musical artists of the 1990s. He passed away in a Manhattan recording studio over the weekend.
The Christian Cultural Center (CCC) is a non-denominational congregation of over 21,000 members, making it the largest church in New York City. Located on a massive six-acre complex in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn, the church sanctuary features neoclassical design, several restaurants and a bookstore. Through a variety of community programs, the CCC has become a beacon to not only the local community but to all of New York City. It regularly hosts events of major importance, including funerals for NYPD's fallen heroes and a recent town hall meeting with United States cabinet members Rod Paige and Alphonso Jackson.
The funeral services will be officiated by Rev. A. R. Bernard, Sr., founder and pastor of the CCC, a man who is emerging as an important spiritual leader. The funeral will take place this Thursday, November 18. The wake will be held from 4:00pm-6:00pm, and the Funeral will begin at 7:30pm. Christian Cultural Center is located at 12020 Flatlands Ave (corner of Louisiana Ave.). For more information on the church: www.cccinfo.org.
