Travel “from Mississippi to Brooklynâ€? with jazz trumpeter, Olu Dara, and special guest, Richie Havens this Monday, January 16, at B.B. King Blues Club and Grill. Jill Newman Productions presents this special Martin Luther King Day Tribute, “The Tradition of the Masters Elevates,â€? as Dara’s Mississippi flavor will join Haven’s distinct rhythms for an incredible collaboration of two blues legends.

Though the Hip-Hop generation generally knows of Olu Dara as rapper Nas’s father; Dara is an accomplished jazz musician in his own right.  He is known for his unique blend of Mississippi blues, jazz, gospel, R&B, Caribbean and African rhythms, and was inducted into the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame in 2003.  He has received much acclaim since the release of his first recording on Atlantic Records, 1998’s In The World: From Natchez to New York,  in. two New York Jazz Awards for “Best Debut Artistâ€? and “Stylistic Fusion Artist of the Year;â€? and France’s Django d’Or International Trophy in the Blues album category.  His most recent album, Neighborhoods, released in 2000, features appearances from Cassandra Wilson and Dr. John.
Famed guitarist, Richie Havens, has been a blues and soul staple, releasing 25 albums in his 30 year career.  Doors open at 6 p.m., with showtime at 7:30 p.m.  BB King Blues Club and Grill is located at 237 W. 42nd St. between 7th and 8th Ave. (212) 997-4144
