Rattner Can Save US Autos: Make Him Japan’s Car Czar

I have an idea! Rattner could be worth billions of dollars to the American government. But only if we can convince the Japanese government to make Rattner Car Czar of Japan.

I love America. You can keep failing your way to the top if you’re friends with or went to school with the right people.

Along the way, you can help people lose billions of dollars.

Take the case of Steven Rattner, who has failed his way all the way to become America’s Car Czar.

He once advised his good friend Arthur Sulzberger Jr., The New York Times’s publisher, on his $1.1 billion purchase of The Boston Globe.

Aren’t financial wizards supposed to see further into the future then the rest of us? Now the Times is even willing to kill The Boston Globe, which reportedly is losing about $100 million a year. In 2003, Rattner, advised Sulzberger not to sell the Globe to Jack Welch and other investors for $500 million. You’d think his advice would be treated with a grain of salt after flushing away $1.1 billion and $500 million down the toilet.

In 2007, Rattner failed in his attempts to save The New York Times by finding a white knight to take the paper private. Now the recent failure; Rattner’s attempt to save Chrysler and his hedge fund buddies at Cerberus from bankruptcy. Only in America: There is nothing like spectacular failure to ensure an individual a high financial office.

Chrysler filed for bankruptcy on Thursday, the first American automaker to file for bankruptcy since Studebaker in 1933, when the Great Depression was roaring.
Rattner was such a reputed financial genius that he was hoping to be Secretary of the Treasury in a Hillary Clinton Administration.

Rattner was assured of this because of his donations to the Democratic Party and his ability to raise money for Hillary. Rattner was friends with Norman Hsu, who along with his friends, donated $850,000 to Hillary Clinton’s campaign; while Hsu was a fugitive from a California fraud case.

Perhaps Hsu thought that in a Clinton Presidency he would be pardoned on humanitarian grounds; just like Bill Clinton pardoned Marc Rich.

Rattner hosted fundraisers, including one on November 29, 2005, at which Hsu was present and donated money for then and present Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm.

I have an idea! Rattner could be worth billions of dollars to the American government. But only if we can convince the Japanese government to make Rattner Car Czar of Japan.
