Where She’s From: Sierra Horstin, beautiful young model, has already faced life’s challenges–now she’s ready for major success.
She hails from the small town of Steubenville, Ohio. “My parents were unfit. So, I was turned over to my maternal grandmother,” Sierra tells The Black Star News. “She raised me single-handedly on an income of welfare and social security. After rent, utilities, and food was bought there is not much left. We lived in places such as on top of bars and apartments dubbed as the projects.”
Sierra also faced some challenges at school. “Being multi-racial, to the white kids I wasn’t white enough and the Black kids I was not Black enough,” she says. “I was was sometimes teased, because we could only afford hand-me-downs or clothes at discount prices.”

Where She’s At: Sierra
attended Brooke High School, Indian Creek High School, and Jefferson County Vocational School. “I was involved in things such as Student Council, Student Ambassador and Prom Court. I graduated high school with a 3.0 GPA and received my license in cosmetology as well in May 2007 and got accepted to the Kent State University,” Sierra continues. “I major in Fashion Merchandising and minor in Public Relations. I am part of the multicultural program and a living-learning community called Quest.”
“I see myself continuing to navigate the complex media environment created by today’s open market,” Sierra says, of her career. “I am aiming to successfully market myself through fan websites, car shows, calendars, personal appearances and other sorts of media. My goals in modeling are to be successful in the glamour, hip hop, and import modeling section of the industry, a cover girl of high end men ‘s magazines such as Lowrider, XXL, and Maxim, or even to be a centerfold or playmate of the year.”

“Beauty is the eye of the beholder, so it is the thing that captivates people and lures them in,” Sierra explains. “Often a model is a spokesperson who is engaged to speak for others. You need to be able to project your personality, your charisma, your charm, and your sex appeal. You need to be able to sell yourself to be able to sell the product.”
So how does this young model prepare to step out? “For lotions I love to use Johnsons Baby Lotion, because it makes your skin baby-bottom soft and is mild enough to not leave a texture,” Sierra says. “My favorite eye shadow is urban decay, because it is matte, silky, and vivid. For mascara I use DiorShow ,it curls, thickens, and elongates your lashes. For foundation I use rice powder ,because it covers the shine, but does not leave your face cakey looking. My favorite brands of clothing are Tripp to NYC, Married to the Mob, and Forever 21.”
