Whilst Madame Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza, FDU-INKINGI Chair, has now been almost two years in Kigali maximum prison for politically motivated charges, plans to track and silence other executive members of the party in Rwanda are still there.

The Coordinating Committee of FDU-INKINGI calls on the government of Rwanda to stop threatening and intimidating the family of Mr. Boniface Twagirimana, FDU-INKINGI Interim Vice President and his colleagues members of the Interim Executive Committee.

Today, fresh threats and harassments against the party vice president and his family were perpetrated by RPF militia, secret police and military using Mr. Ndejeje Francois Xavier, the Executive Secretary of Shyogwe Sector,  Muhanga District.

There is clear evidence that new plans to stifle the opposition are in the making and that enforcement agencies and secret police are being used for political ends for reprisals against political opponents aimed also at preventing them from challenging the dictatorship.

This follows several attempts by the ruling click to fuel and fund internal splits and factions within the opposition.

We express our categorical protest against this political persecution. Opposition is not a crime and all Rwandans should enjoy the same rights in their country.
